Masatoki Minami is a legendary railway photographer who has shot all of the great trains of Europe and beyond for the past 50 years.
He will be speaking about his adventures at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan 6pm-8pm on April 17. All are welcome.
After a stint working for an animation company and shooting for Weekly Manga Action in the late 60s and early 70s, he began his lifelong passion of photographing railways such as France’s le Train Bleu and TGV, Germany’s InterCity President, and Italy’s popular Settebello, in addition to Japan’s Shinkansen.
In 1988, he covered the visit to Japan of the Orient Express along its historic run from Paris through Russia and China to Japan.
In the near future, Minami hopes to resume the tours he used to organize on the specially prepared Italian train Settebello for railway fans.

南 正時氏は、過去50年にわたりヨーロッパをはじめとする世界の名列車を撮り続けてきた伝説的な鉄道写真家です。
4月17日午後6時から、日本外国特派員協会で彼の冒険を語るトークショーが開催されます。
ゲストとして月刊とれいん創刊者で、鉄道模型の会理事長・平井憲太郎氏がおみえになります。
1960年代後半から70年代前半にかけてアニメ会社で働き、「週刊漫画アクション」の撮影に携わった後、日本の「新幹線」に加え、フランスの「ル・トレイン・ブルー」や「TGV」、ドイツの「インターシティ・プレジデント」、イタリアの人気列車「セッテベッロ」など、鉄道の撮影に情熱を注いできました。
1988年には、オフィシャル・カメラマンとして、パリからロシア、中国を経て日本に至る歴史的な「オリエント急行」の来日を監修・取材しました。
