Resisting To The End

Just a few years ago, Internet entrepreneur Takafumi Horie led a brash challenge to the Japanese establishment. His attempted purchase of the Kintetsu Buffalos baseball team and attempted hostile takeover of Fuji Television made him a household name, and earned him the affectionate nickname of Horiemon. But two years ago he was arrested and indicted for securities fraud in what he terms a "state sponsored investigation". He has appealed to the Supreme Court.

Now Horiemon is back, and on the offensive. Also a best-selling author, Horie's latest book is titled "Complete Resistance". In it he relates his baseball and media acquisition attempts, his failed run for office in the 2005 election, his "corrupt" arrest, betrayal by his colleagues, time in jail, his trial, and his future plans.

As the Japanese economy languishes and both major parties in Japan are tainted by yet another funding scandal, public confidence in Japan's economic and political leaders has hit rock bottom. Can Horie again become a symbol of economic vitality and political reform? Come to the FCCJ to hear what Horiemon has to say about money, media, politics, and politically motivated arrest.
