Summary:
Professional Breakfast,
Seiji Maehara,
Vice President, Democratic Party of Japan
The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation
Description:With Lower House elections to be held sometime within the next six months, the ruling and opposition parties continue to jostle for position in Japan and abroad. Seiji Maehara, one of the Democratic Party of Japan's top leaders and an expert on U.S.-Japan relations, has just returned from the U.S., where he met Obama administration officials. Former Prime Minister Shintaro Abe, also in Washington D.C. last week, told the Brookings Institution that if Maehara becomes Prime Minister, the U.S.-Japan alliance would not be undermined, and U.S. officials have long preferred Maehara over other party officials, especially Ichiro Ozawa.
Join the FCCJ as Maehara presents his views on the current political situation in Japan, and where the U.S.-Japan relationship in particular may go if the DPJ takes power.
