Description:

In October 1945, two months after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, a film crew entered the city to document victims of the attack and what remained of the city. The film was sent to America and released in 1946 as "The effect of Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki."

In 1995 Hiroshima's RCC-TV, working with Nihon Eiga Sha and the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, revised the unedited version of the film, cataloging the locations and those featured in it, while also converting it to high-definition.

The resulting film, "The A-bomb, What happened to Hiroshima?," was released in 2006 in Japanese and has now had English subtitles added.

On Aug. 4 the documentary will be shown at the FCCJ prior to a discussion on the movie led by Chie Matsuoka of RCC Broadcasting, who coordinated the project to remake the film, and Motoshi Kato, president of rights-holder Nichiei Eizo.

As the anniversary of the atomic bombing approaches, join us to see this extraordinary work and get a reminder of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons.
