Shinobu Ohtake and Mitsuko Kusabue, two of Japan's leading actresses, will appear in "Grey Gardens," a Japanese adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway musical. The production is directed by Amon Miyamoto, the first Asian ever to direct a Broadway musical, "Pacific Overtures" (2004).
"Grey Gardens" is a seriocomic, two act musical based on the documentary of the same title about the lives of Edith Ewing Bouvier ("Big Bouvier," played by Kusabue) and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale ("Little Bouvier," played by Ohtake). The Beales were Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis's aunt and first cousin, respectively.
Set at Beale's mansion, "Grey Gardens" in East Hampton, New York, the musical presents the dynamics of their dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship through the progression from socially poised rich aristocrats to an isolated existence in a home overridden by cats.
Theater tickets cost 11,000 yen, however the FCCJ price includes brunch and a glass of sparkling wine for 12,500 yen per person. Please make your reservations by phone (03-3211-3161) or online ASAP. A first come first served policy will be strictly observed. Cancellations after 18:00 on October 14 will be charged in full.
