Description:"Fool's Gold - How Financial Innovation Turned Dangerous"
The roller-coaster ride the world's financial system has taken in the last year has been the subject of much discussion, a lot of it focused on the U.S. but on Friday we'll take a wider view and tie the problems of the U.S. together with Japan when we are joined by Gillian Tett.
In her latest book Tett, a former Tokyo Bureau Chief of the Financial Times, looks at why financial innovation turned so dangerous this decade. The book examines the parallels between the Japanese and Western financial crises and the outlook for the Western financial system and implications for Japan.
Journalists will also be interested in her analysis of why the Western media was so slow to warn about the credit bubble.
Gillian Tett is currently an assistant editor of the Financial Times, who oversees the newspaper's global coverage of the financial markets. In 2008 she was named Business Journalist of the Year in the British Press Awards for her coverage of the credit turmoil. In 2009 she was named Journalist of the Year, in all categories.
