Description:

The latest edition of the "Michelin Red Guide to Tokyo", which was issued on Tuesday, brought surprising results. Noteworthy: Tokyo passed Paris as the city with the most Michelin three-star restaurants confirming its status as the "world capital of gastronomy".

With 11 three-star restaurants, compared with 10 for Paris, Tokyo has also passed Paris in total stars -- 261 shared by 197 restaurants.

Two-thirds of Michelin "starred" restaurants in Tokyo emphasize Japanese cuisine. Others include French, Spanish, Chinese and Italian and the increasingly competitive market.

The FCCJ is delighted to host Jean-Luc Naret, president of Michelin Guides, and Bernard Delmas, president of Michelin Japan, for a well-timed (and surely well-prepared) professional luncheon.

Our guests will discuss the development of Michelin's guides in Asia and elsewhere around the world, as well as the criteria for attributing stars, and issue that has caused great controversy among restaurants and chefs everywhere.

Join us for what is sure to be an outstanding event on the values of culinary professionalism with some "grist for the mill" for future reports on Tokyo's restaurant scene.
