FCCJ Tour to Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo

Time: 2009 Dec 07 14:00 - 16:00
Summary:

14:00-16:00 Monday, December 7, 2009
(The Museum is officially closed on Mondays, but it is being specially opened for the FCCJ Tour)

Description:

You may have heard that the most recent "talk-of-the-town" spot is the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum in the Marunouchi Park Building. To commemorate the reconstruction of the Mitsubishi Ichigokan (the first office building in the Marunouchi area, completed in 1894, designed by British architect Josiah Conder), Mitsubishi Estate Company is making the Mitsubishi Ichigokan a center of art and culture as the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum.

For the opening event, Mitsubishi Estate Company is holding a special exhibition entitled "Icho London and the Marunouchi Style" (Mile One London: the birth of the Mitsubishi business area).

The exhibits will feature "Marunouchi Then and Now: 1894-2009." They will explain the meaning of the reconstruction of the old building, and show a history of the "Marunouchi Style" as follows:

• Architect Josiah Conder and Marunouchi: Dawn of a New Business District

• The Birth of Queen Ann Style Brick Office Buildings in "Icho London"

• Businessmen's Lifestyle and Urban Culture

• The Birth of Marunouchi Style: Men/Women
