The FCCJ's favorite jazz vocalist returns! Hiroko traces her love of music to hearing the many records played by her father and the traditional Japanese songs sung by her grandmother. At 5 she played her first musical instrument, the electone, and by 12 was singing pop, rock and soul in a school band. Her interest in jazz was triggered when she heard the legendary singer Anita O'Day.

Hiroko gained professional experience singing at live houses in her hometown, Shizuoka, and on TV commercials. She traveled to the UK to study English in 2000 and then relocated to Tokyo and now performs regularly at jazz clubs throughout the Kanto area. For this gig she will be joined by guitarist Yuichiro Hiraoka, Hitomi Yamakami on alto sax and flute, and bassist Tadashi Sase.
