Description:

The powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.0 on the Richter Scale which devastated Haiti on Jan. 12 (local time) was the biggest to hit the country in 100 years. The destructive force of the earthquake was magnified by the fact that it happened in an urban area, exactly like the Great Hanshin Earthquake of Kobe in 1995.

Today the world is mobilized to offer aid. From the U.S., Europe, Asia and other regions the response to the Haiti earthquake has been immediate. To inform the press in Japan about this tragedy the Acting-Ambassador of the Republic of Haiti, Jean-Claude Bordes, will be at the FCCJ at 16:00 today for an emergency press conference.
