Robert Amsterdam, Human Rights lawyer
Summary:
PRESS CONFERENCE
Robert Amsterdam, Human Rights lawyer
The speech and Q & A will be in English.
Description:For an update on events in Thailand, who better than human rights specialist Robert Amsterdam?
Robert Amsterdam has been retained by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to keep the outside world up to speed on the still tense situation in Thailand. Outwardly, calm has returned to Bangkok and its teeming business district. In reality, there are many questions over where this society is heading.
To offer some possible answers - and to detail the struggle for democracy in Thailand, this key South East Asian state - we welcome Amsterdam.
Thaksin Shinawatra served as Thailand's prime minister from 2001 to 2006 before being driven from office in a military coup, thereby setting the scene for the violence that broke out in the spring of this year and resulted in scores of deaths.
Amsterdam set up his law firm in 1980 and now has offices in London and Washington DC.
