PRESS CONFERENCE
Margus Tsahkna, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English with simultaneous interpretation in Japanese.

Making the World Fit for Freedom

As Ukraine and Georgia have discovered, living next to Russia can have disastrous consequences. As a former part of the Soviet empire, Estonia sits next to Russia and has, along with the other former Soviet Baltic states, been threatened by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna believes the West and its allies must come together "for a dialogue on how to strengthen the international order of sovereign states, how to ensure human rights and freedoms for all, and how to foster inclusive decision-making."

These words come from a January 23 statement called "Making the World Fit for Freedom" in which Tsahkna's explained his thoughts on the dangers facing the West and the ways to address them. He will come to the Club to expand on his ideas and explain what he thinks the West and its allies must do to guarantee their joint safety.
