"Once more until the breach, dear friends, once more..." to the FCCJ's "Wooden O" for the final part of the trilogy that we began with "Henry IV Part 1" back in February.

The ever-popular "Henry V" is not just a tub-thumping record of an infamous English victory over the French by "we few, we happy few, we band of brothers" and the achievements of the short-lived but much-revered king, but a fascinating reflection on war, leadership, loyalty and cooperation. It features a Welshman with a leek, an Irishman, a Scotsman, many wine-drinking French lords, tennis balls, a French English lesson, a king struggling to woo in French, and the moving demise of Falstaff and his companions.

The distinguished 1979 BBC cast features David Gwillim as the King, Alec McCowen as Chorus, Tim Wylton as Fluellen, Brenda Bruce as Mistress Quickly, and Jocelyn Boisseau as Princess Katherine.

We welcome back Stuart Varnam-Atkin as our guest lecturer. A long-term Japan resident, Stuart has carved a career in media-related activities, including writing, translation, narrating, acting and TV work and he presented various Shakespeare recitals last year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death.
Warwickshire-born and Oxford-educated, Stuart is a prolific writer of books on Japanese culture, including The Best of Japanese Culture: A Photographic Overview (IBC) and Trad Japan, Mod Nippon (NHK). He has produced prose versions of several Shakespeare plays, and modernized the Bard's words in his bilingual Great Dialogues from the World of Shakespeare (The Japan Times). He's also a presenter on the current 15-part TV series Walking with Writers (Open University of Japan).

Tickets for a sumptuous lunch are 2,000 Yen per person and a cash bar is available for your choice of drinks. Cancellations after 6 p.m. Monday, June 5th, will be charged in full. Please make reservations through the Front Desk Phone (03)3211-3161 or Online.

Doors open and cocktails at 11:45. Lunch is from 12:00. The play, with a short intermission, will end at approximately 4.30 p.m.
