"Making Sense of Trumponomics and the Implications for Japan"

Paul Sheard, Vice Chairman of S&P Global

Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.

Donald Trump's economic actions, whether it be in leading the charge into trade wars, crashing out of international agreements, erecting tariff walls or slashing taxes, often appear random to the point of being senseless. There is little rhyme or reason behind them, it often seems.

Yet at least one leading international economist - Paul Sheard, vice chairman of financial and analytics group S&P Global - believes it is possible to "make sense of Trumponomics" and he will explain why during an upcoming Professional Lunch at the FCCJ.

A renowned academic economist who has held senior positions with leading investment banking and groups in various parts of the world, Sheard will also explain "the implications of Trumponomics for Japan."

A regular speaker at the FCCJ, he joined S&P Global in 2012, and previously served as Chief Global Economist and Head of Global Economics and Research, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services (now S&P Global Ratings) and Executive Vice President and Chief Economist of S&P Global.

Previously, Sheard held chief economist positions at Nomura Securities and at Lehman Brothers and earlier he had been Head of Japan Equity Investments and Japan Strategist at Baring Asset Management in Tokyo.

He appears often at major conferences around the world and his views are frequently quoted in the international media. He was a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on the International Monetary System in 2010-12 and is a member of the Bretton Woods Committee.

Sheard was formerly on the faculty at the Australian National University (ANU) and at Osaka University, and was a visiting researcher at Stanford University and at the Bank of Japan. He received his bachelor's degree from Monash University in Australia and a master's degree in Economics and a Ph.D. from the ANU.
