Description:In the multi-billion dollar computer gaming market, Nintendo is riding a wave. Its Wii console and DS handheld are outselling competitors every month and software sales are strong - despite the recession. Like other companies it has been hit by the recession but still expects a healthy profit this year, unlike many others in the IT sector.
But there are storm clouds on the horizon. Sales of the Wii are falling in Japan and the company recently said it expects to sell 1 million fewer of the consoles this year than originally anticipated.
Late last year it launched the DSi, a renewal of the popular DS, to stoke demand in Japan. The DSi goes on sale in Europe on April 3 and in the U.S. on April 5. Just days later, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata and world-famous games developer Shigeru Miyamoto (the man behind Mario, Zelda and many of Nintendo's most popular products) will be at the FCCJ.
They will provide an update on the launch of the DSi overseas and you'll get a chance to ask them about the video game market in 2009 and ahead.
