Yokohama Night
Summary:
The 150th Anniversary of the Opening of the Port of Yokohama
Friday May 15, 2009
6:30pm to 9:00pm
Pen & Quill Dining Room
Just six years after U.S. Commodore Matthew Perry pried Japan open to the world in 1853 at the small port of Uraga, now part of Yokosuka,
the nearby town of Yokohama was officially declared a port on June 2, 1859. Then a humble town of just a few hundred households it has grown to become Japan's second-largest city, even surpassing Osaka. This year Yokohama is rightfully celebrating its 150th anniversary as an official port.
The FCCJ is happy to help Yokohama kick off its celebration in a high-class style. The city does, after all, represent an open Japan.
On May 15 we will host a lavish buffet sit-down dinner of food representing Yokohama's best international cuisine: French, Chinese
and Japanese, all prepared for us specially by the city's best chefs. It doesn't get better than this.
For a mere 5,000 yen you can indulge yourself in some world-class cuisine and partake of one glass each of red and white wines created
or this celebration.
One indication of how seriously Yokohama takes this is that the vice mayor will attend our event. Do not miss this special occasion.
