"The Current Situation in Sri Lanka"

With violence once again on the rise in Sri Lanka, Yasushi Akashi, who returned recently from a fact-finding trip at the request of the Japanese government, will speak to the FCCJ on the progress, or lack of progress, towards ending conflict in the troubled country. Akashi is one of Japan's most internationally prominent diplomats who has visited Sri Lanka over 15 times. During his recent trip, Akashi spoke with senior Sri Lankan government officials in Colombo about the Tamil Tigers, and conducted numerous on-the-ground surveys.

Join the FCCJ as Akashi offers an update on what he saw, and suggests what both Japan and the international community should do to help end the strife.
