Kaio, Sumo Champion (Ozeki)

Time: 2009 Jun 02 12:00 - 14:00
Summary:

Professional Luncheon,
Kaio,
Sumo Champion (Ozeki)

Language:

The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.

Description:

Kaio is the "nearly man" of Japanese sumo. The veteran wrestler has won five Grand Sumo Tournaments but has not been able to rise to the level of Yokozuna. Instead, he's been stuck at the rank of Ozeki for nine years and is the longest-serving Ozeki of all time in terms of number of tournaments fought.

He's still there at the age of 36 (he'll be 37 in July), grinding out winning records and protecting his rank. He finished 8-7 in his last three tournaments and, at least in ranking terms, remains the top Japanese wrestler in sumo.

How much longer will he go on? Can he squeeze out another championship? Or is he just a spoiler for sumo's foreign stars? Find out what the Ozeki thinks when he is the guest of the club at a luncheon on June 2.

MENU
Sandwich Plate: Tuna salad, avocado, tomato, egg & lettuce on campagne with pickles.
Hot Plate: Pork loin cutlet with vegetable stuffing & mushroom sauce, new potatoes, broccoli and green salad.
