Atsushi Saito,
President & CEO, Tokyo Stock Exchange Group, Inc.
The speech and Q & A will be in English.
Description:Amid growing competition among the world's markets to attract new investors, the Tokyo Stock Exchange has launched a new market - called Tokyo AIM - with the London Stock Exchange. It is designed to provide a new funding option for growing companies in Japan and Asia, as well as creating new opportunities for professional investors.
The TSE also plans to introduce stricter rules on corporate governance and the behavior of listed firms that could result in more offending firms being delisted.
At the same time, the Financial Services Agency, Japan's banking and brokerage industry watchdog, is seeking to limit leverage on forex margin trading to better protect individual investors in the aftermath of the global credit crisis. One result of the crisis has been a massive loss of wealth.
TSE President and CEO Atsushi Saito will discuss challenges for the exchange, companies and investors in his speech to the club entitled: "The current financial crisis and corporate governance." A former Nomura Securities executive, Saito has headed the TSE for the past two years. Previously, he served as the head of the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan.
