Summary:
PROFESSIONAL LUNCHEON
Takeo Hiranuma,
Former Member of the House of Representatives, Hiranuma Group
The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.
Description:Long considered a strong prime ministerial candidate, in the run-up to the August 30 general election Takeo Hiranuma is once again making political waves with his group of conservative independents, the Hiranuma Group.
Hiranuma, who has served as transport minister and trade minister, left the ruling Liberal Democratic Party to protest against then Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's postal privatization drive, and emerged as a leading "postal rebel."
If the ruling coalition of the LDP and New Komeito party or the largest opposition Democratic Party of Japan fails to secure a majority in the election, Hiranuma believes his group has a chance to play a pivotal role in energizing Japan's politics.
