Martyn Williams
Exploring Video

18:30-20:30 February 9, 2010
(The speech and Q & A will be in English)

Description:

For most correspondents the arrival of the Internet has meant an increasing demand for multimedia of all kinds -- images, slideshows, podcasts and video.

In the summer of 2006 Martyn Williams, Tokyo correspondent for IDG News Service, answered a call from his company to experiment with video. Days later he received a camera but little else. So began a crash course in Web video production during which he researched both the technical and creative sides of the medium.

On Feb. 9 he'll be sharing his experiences about what worked, what didn't, and answering questions as part of the FCCJ's series of events for journalists. If you're interested in exploring video and don't know where to start this is an excellent opportunity to get your feet wet.

Former FCCJ President Martyn Williams is Tokyo Bureau Chief for IDG News Service and covers the vibrant IT and consumer electronics industry in Japan and South Korea in text and video.

He came to Japan in 1995 from his native U.K. and has covered the nation's information technology industry for the duration of his stay. Since the late 1990s he has also covered the industry in neighboring South Korea. He joined the News Service in 1999. Prior to his stay in Japan he covered computing, the nascent Internet of the time and satellite television and communications for several media outlets in Europe.

At present he is following the restructuring of Sony, the gaming console market, environmental issues in the electronics sector and 3D television.

Don't miss this opportunity to find out about video from a seasoned reporter.
