Description:
James W. Adams, World Bank Vice President for East Asia and Pacific, will discuss "priorities and challenges" for the region that is fast recovering from the drag of the global financial crisis and recession. He is in Tokyo for annual high-level discussions with government counterparts and members of the Diet.
Adams is responsible for the bank's strategy, operations and partnerships in the region that ranges from the world’s most populous country to the smallest and most remote Pacific Islands states. Through loans, credits and grants to governments in the region, the World Bank is seeking to help mitigate the economic and social impacts of the global economic crisis, increase interregional integration and improve governance.
Previously, Adams was Vice President and Head of Network, Operations Policy and Country Services, at the World Bank. Since joining the Washington-based organization in 1974, Adams has held a variety of operational positions in East Asia, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Before his career at the bank, he worked for Merchants Bank, in Syracuse, NY, and with the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, in Geneva, Switzerland. Adams studied at Colgate University, and holds an MPA from Princeton University.
