Film director Yoji Yamada is proving that his trademark movies are not only the enormously popular series of "Otoko wa Tsuraiyo", featuring lovable bachelor Tora-san. He won an Oscar nomination for his 2002 film, "Tasogare Seibei" ("Twilight Samurai"), and in 2008 he produced "Kabei," subsequently bringing back the two main characters in "Ototo," his latest movie. "Ototo" was chosen as the closing film at the Berlin Film Festival and also won Yamada the Bernale Camera Award.
"Ototo" is a about a widow, Ginko, who is constantly troubled by her younger brother Tetsuro, who's portrayed as a drunk and a failure. She overlooks his flaws until one day she decides she's had enough. But they reunite. That's when she discovers, he's fighting cancer.
It's an opportunity to hear directly from one of Japan's best filmmakers and movie stars. FCCJ members can enjoy the movie free-of-charge on March 8 from 10 am at Shochiku Preview Room courtesy of Shochiku.
Members planning to attend this press conference are asked to reserve in advance, online (http://www.fccj.or.jp - please log in to reserve) or at the Front Desk (3211-3161), so that the staff can make appropriate
preparations. It's free of charge.
