Tokyo Skytree is seen behind the decorations for the Tanabata festival at Kappabashidogugai Street, a shopping street near Asakusa in Tokyo. Kappabashi-dori, also known just as Kappabashi or Kitchen Town, is located between Ueno and Asakusa and is famous for supplying the restaurant industry. The annual celebration commemorates the legend of two lovers separated by the Milky Way who only meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month.

Visitors enjoy a display of lanterns during the annual Mitama Festival at Yasukuni Shrine. Over 20,000 lanterns were displayed along the entrance and inside the shrine to help spirits find their way during the annual celebration for the spirits of ancestors. The festival ran until July 16.
