Description:

Gundam, one of Japan's most famous and popular anime, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Featuring giant robots, it has become a massively successful franchise -- if you're in any doubt about its popularity just ask any kid between 5 and 40 and they'll tell you.

To coincide with the anniversary a full-size replica is soon to be completed in Odaiba's Shiokaze park and an anniversary event will take place in August at Tokyo Big Sight.

Gundam-fever will be high at the FCCJ on July 7 when we welcome superstar anime director Yoshiyuki Tomino, who created the first Gundam anime series and went on to make a string of sequels and spinoffs. Tomino will talk about the creation of Gundam, the series, over the last 30 years and take your questions.

Tomino began his career in the early 1960s with Osamu Tezuka, working on the storyboards of the world famous Tetsuwan Atomu (Astro Boy) TV series.
