Description:Top Iranian Nuclear Negotiator
Saeed Jalili, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and the nation's top nuclear negotiator, is coming to Japan to hold talks with Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada and other senior Japanese officials on Iranian nuclear and other outstanding issues.
Jalili, a close friend and adviser of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, succeeded Ali Larijani as the secretary of the council and chief nuclear negotiator in 2007.
His visit comes at a time when Iran is under growing pressure to accept a U.N.-brokered proposal to defuse the nuclear crisis. Japan is expected to call on Iran to accept the U.N. proposal.
Iran maintains that its nuclear programs are intended for peaceful purposes.
This is a rare opportunity for club members to hear directly from Iran's key man in the nuclear row.
