Description:

Ten years ago Takeshi Natsuno was building up a technology that would make Japan's cell phones the envy of the world. I-mode grabbed the world's attention and Japan was riding high, but then came along the iPhone.

The spotlight shifted and suddenly Japan was no longer a world leader but a different world -- a place where things evolve differently to the rest of the world. Japan is now commonly referred to as the "Galapagos Islands" of the cell phone world - a reference to the Pacific islands where a vast number of species have developed differently from most of the rest of the world.

But is Japan that different? Does this mean Japanese technologies and innovations are forever restricted to the country's shores and do Japan's major electronics companies have a chance overseas against the likes of Apple, Nokia, Samsung and Motorola?

Takeshi Natsuno, himself a dual iPhone and i-Mode user, will address the issue and talk about the future of the Japanese mobile industry. Often outspoken, be sure to attend and get an inside take on the industry's future.
