Stefano Sannino, Secretary General of the European Union’s European External Action Service

At this time of geo-political turbulence, the EU's position on the war in Ukraine, its relations with China as well as the EU's strategy toward the Indo-Pacific region is of critical importance. EEAS Secretary General Stafano Sannino, who heads the body supporting the EU foreign affairs chief, is well qualified to speak on these issues as well as on defense and security issues in the current geopolitical context. He is currently visiting Japan to take part in political consultations with Japanese interlocutors and his kindly agreed to address the FCCJ, despite his busy schedule.

Stefano Sannino has previously worked as EEAS Deputy Secretary General for Economic and Global Issues, as Ambassador of Italy to Spain and the Italian Permanent Representative to the EU. Sannino also served as Director General for Enlargement in the European Commission. He took up his current role in January 2021.
