Special Dinner Event: A September Shakespeare Soiree
to celebrate the 1623 publication of the First Folio of Shakespeare's Plays
Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
The talk will be mainly in English.
All tickets: 8,500 yen (includes one drink, dinner, talk show and concert)
"If music be the food of love…"
It's difficult to imagine the world's cultural history without the words from Twelfth Night and 17 other plays, including Antony & Cleopatra, As You Like It, Julius Caesar, Macbeth and The Tempest. But they were only saved from probable oblivion by the publishing in 1623 of The First Folio by two of Shakespeare’s colleagues. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the great literary work, we present an enchanting evening of food, words and music.
The meal will be served courtesy of the FCCJ kitchen. Shakespeare’s words, mostly from the 'saved' plays, will be delivered by regular Saturday Lunch with Shakespeare (SLWS) presenter Stuart Varnam-Atkin. The music, including brand-new original pieces and improvisations, will be performed by composer and pianist Suguru Minamide, who graduated from The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

シェイクスピアの戯曲がまとめられた最初の作品集 First Folio の 出版(1623年)から 400 年を記念しイベントを企画しました。
シェイクスピアの演劇と音楽をテーマに、 役者・ライター・TV プレゼンター・ナレーター のステュウット ヴァーナム - アトキンと、クリエイター・音楽プロデューサー ピアニスト・作曲家の南出 卓による対談。そしてアトキンによるシェイクスピア作品の朗読と、 南出による新曲即興演奏による特別コラボレーションです。
