Photographer Greg Davis was a stalwart of the FCCJ and died young from liver cancer. He and his wife, Masako Sakata, were convinced the cancer stemmed from his exposure to Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. Sakata delved deep into the problems caused by Agent Orange in Vietnam in her award-winning documentary film "Agent Orange – A Personal Requiem." Her pursuit of truth continues to this day as the effects of the defoliant persist, and she has a new film on the subject, "Long Time Passing."
Since 2010, author Jon Mitchell has been investigating the U.S. military's use of Agent Orange on Okinawa, which was a vital military base during the Vietnam War. The U.S. was believed to have stored Agent Orange in Okinawa, Guam and other Pacific islands, but the denials continue.
Mitchell and Sakata will come to the Club to expose what they refer to as "decades of U.S. government secrecy and hypocrisy" regarding Agent Orange and will show a clip from "Long Time Passing."
