PRESS CONFERENCE

Japan's Biggest Foreign YouTuber

Chris Broad, YouTuber

15:00-16:00 Wednesday, October 5, 2022
(The speech and Q & A will be in English.)

Strict border controls have forced overseas fans of Japan to enjoy and experience the country and its culture via YouTube. This, in turn, has led those who live here to produce all manner of Japan-related YouTube content, and their numbers continue to grow on a daily basis. But Chris Broad has been at it longer than most, and, thanks to his "Abroad in Japan" channel, he has become one of the biggest and most successful of all foreign YouTubers covering Japan.

The Englishman's sardonic wit combined with a cinematic eye has seen his channel grow to nearly 3 million subscribers. From the streets of London to the streets of Sendai, his homebase in Japan, Chris has become a famous face, and his "12 things NOT to do in Japan" video has been seen by 16 million people.

So, what is a YouTuber and how valid are their representations of Japan? Chris Broad will come to the Club to explain all and, hopefully, give the FCCJ's YouTube channel a massive boost.
