Renho to oppose Koike in Tokyo gubernatorial election
Renho has announced she will run in the Tokyo gubernatorial election on July 7 and will be supported in her bid by the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and the Japanese Communist Party.
A 20-year member of the House of Councilors, Renho, who generally goes by her given name, will offer a high-profile face to oppose incumbent Yuriko Koike in the politically significant job of governor of Tokyo. Renho has said she is running to "reset the Koike-led metropolitan government."
She will come to the Club to outline her policies and her plans should she succeed in becoming governor of Tokyo.
