It's Saturday Nite Live!
Celebrate International Jazz Day with
Derek Short & The Executive Class Band
18:30 - 21:00, May 9, 2026

Derek Short & The Executive Class Band bring back their smooth jazzy grooves and classy funk to the FCCJ. Derek Short (bass/vocals) is a well-known jazz and funk six-string bassist, composer and producer from Chicago. He has also performed in New York, California, London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Egypt and lived in Tokyo for more than 20 years, playing with many major artists and as a leader performing at clubs, events and hotels all over Japan. He has also released four solo CDs on bass and saxophone.

The band also consists of Yuri Sasaki (French Horn / trumpet), Mac Fukuda (guitar) and Kishida Yoshio (drums).

Black Music and Jazz Review magazine said: "A dynamic but precise sound ensemble. You'd think he'd end it there, but he also has a funky toon that reminds me of street funk. His sound comes from his knowledge: Having a deep understanding of both jazz and classical music. And his roots: Being born in Chicago. And playing the trumpet from a young age and picking up the bass at 14."

Years of valuable experiences he gained while traveling the world, the feeling, senses, and emotions of it all have assembled freely here in Japan.

And remember SNL is free for FCCJ members! For guests & non-members, there is a 1,000 yen music charge, an incredible bargain for Tokyo entertainment. Please note the charge will apply to all guests and non members who are in the SNL venue at any time after the commencement of the first set.
