PRESS CONFERENCE
Can Japan-Based Vehicle Makers Prevail in This New Era?
Karl Deppen, President & CEO, ARCHION Corporation
10:00-11:00 Thursday, November 12, 2026
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.
Toyota and Daimler Truck rarely end up on the same side of the table. Yet since April, the two vehicle-making giants’ Japan-based truck subsidiaries — Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso— have operated under one Tokyo-listed roof, Archion. It is an industrial experiment with few parallels: a Japanese-European hybrid created to survive an industry being reshaped by decarbonization, electrification, autonomous driving technologies and a wave of aggressive new competitors.
Archion's president & CEO, Karl Deppen, will offer FCCJ members a window into this unusual venture. Expect three takeaways, at least:
- How two proud brands can merge with very different corporate cultures;
- How can Japanese truck makers defend market share in Southeast Asia from up and coming Chinese makers;
- Whether Japan's automotive industry can hold onto its dominance in the face of new technologies, trade wars and splintering supply chains.
Please join us for this rare chance to hear directly from Archion’s leader at a pivotal moment — on strategy, on rivals and on what comes next for Japan.
