Press Conference:
Towards a Diverse, Inclusive LDP
Tomomi Inada
Member of the House of Representatives, LDP
11:00 - 12:00, Wednesday, September 23, 2020
(The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation.)
Former Defense Minister Tomomi Inada is well known as one of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's most right-wing members, and she was once barred from entering South Korea over her views. However, she has also angered conservative members of her party with calls for a more inclusive society, especially for women.
Earlier this year, she and nine other female LDP Diet members published a book of essays on how they wanted to change the politics in Japan. In her essay, Inada spoke of the need for a diverse, conservative LDP -- one that, for example, made the problems of single mothers a policy priority.
With speculation swirling about a snap general election. Inada, who aims to become Japan's first female prime minister, is laying the groundwork to build support. Please join the FCCJ on-line or in person, as she outlines her views for the Suga Cabinet and the kind of LDP she envisions.
