GAZA: Signal Of Life

For the month of April, the FCCJ is proud to present a telling exhibition to support Palestinian filmmaker and photographer Amer Nasser who is currently living a difficult and perilous life in the midst of a serious humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza. As a producer selected to exhibit his work at the Cannes Film Festival and Dubai International Film Festival, Nasser would suffer the loss of his camera and computer in one of the many bombings, the artist’s foremost means of expression. Without backup equipment, he was forced to turn to his only remaining means of recording history - a smartphone - to continue sending out daily videos and photos on social media.

At the reception, a short film produced by Amer Nasser will be screened and Hanin, a Japan-based Palestinian activist, will talk about the historical background of Gaza and the current situation in the region, where people still live under constant attack. Palestinian embroidery on kimono sashes will also be displayed. There will also be an exhibition and sale of obi accessories.

The images he distributes to the world are the very signal of his life from Gaza, where internet access is intermittent and difficult to come by. Even though he faces such significant challenges, his work serenely captures the lives of people living in this harsh reality. Having received new signals from Amer, art archivist Kazura Sunamori's group hopes to spread them to the world through exhibitions like this one. With the cooperation of the “Palestinian Embroidery Belt Project,” this exhibition will introduce the important cultural exchange between Palestine and Japan. This exhibition will also introduce a fascinating cultural exchange in support of local women by applying traditional Palestinian embroidery to Japanese kimonos, in cooperation with the 'Palestinian Embroidery Belt Project'.

4月のFCCJ写真展は、ガザ北部の深刻な人道危機の中、今も困難で危険な生活を強いられているパレスチナの映像作家・写真家、アメル・ナーセルに連帯する作品展です。
カンヌ映画祭やドバイ国際映画際で入選したドキュメンタリー映画などのプロデューサーである彼ですが、爆撃により彼にとって最も重要な表現手段であったカメラとコンピュータを失いました。
それでも、唯一残された歴史を記録する手段であるスマートフォンを使い、ソーシャルメディア上で毎日ビデオや写真を発信し続けています。

アメル・ナーセル制作のショートフィルムを上映し、日本在住のパレスチナ人活動家ハニンさんが、ガザの歴史的経緯、今も攻撃を受けながら人々が暮らすガザの現況を語ります。
(英語から日本語への通訳がございます) また、和服の帯にパレスチナの伝統的な刺繍を施す文化交流プロジェクトを紹介します。おあつらえ可能な高度な手作業による帯のほか、小物などの展示販売も行います。

インターネットへのアクセスが断続的で困難なガザから彼が世界に配信する映像は、彼とガザの人々の命のシグナルそのものです。
破壊され続ける日常に直面しながらも、彼の作品は厳しい現実の中で生きる人々の生活を穏やかに捉えています。
アメルからのシグナルを受け取ったアート・アーキヴィスト砂守かずらのグループは、今回のような展覧会を通じてガザの現状を世界に広めていきたいと考えています。
また本展は「パレスチナ刺繍帯プロジェクト」の協力を得て、パレスチナの伝統的な刺繍を日本の和装に施し、現地の女性を支援する魅力的な文化交流も併せて紹介いたします。
