CLIMATE CHANGE:  IS JAPAN CRISIS-READY?

The FCCJ's new Deep Dive series offers in-depth perspectives from leading experts on key business and social issues.

The first event in this series examined the global dimensions of climate change and the second will
focus on how Japan proposes to meet what IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva has termed
"a greater threat" than the COVID-19 pandemic.

The US has jumped back into climate action by rejoining the Paris Accord on Climate Change and by appointing former Secretary of State John Kerry as its climate "tsar." China and the EU are also committed to strong action.

But what of Japan? Japanese culture has long been respectful of nature but the challenges posed by climate change demand policy actions go beyond respectful coexistence with nature. They call for determined and coordinated actions on the part of political, economic and financial actors.

Is Japan "action ready" in this regard?  Our expert panel will address this and other questions, with particular emphasis on the economic and financial dimensions of climate change.
