War has now been formally declared in global trade with US president Donald Trump's announcement of a raft of new tariffs on key trading partners. Meanwhile, along with US and other stocks, the dollar has taken a beating in financial markets. But its fall so far could be only the prelude to a longer and more severe decline of the world’s leading international transaction and reserve currency as trade wars take their toll on the global economy.

What will be the impact of these developments on trade and investment? Can the dollar’s fate be controlled by a second Plaza Accord (or “Mar a Lago” pact) of the kind used to influence the value of the currency in 1985 - or are market forces simply too strong now to allow for such official manipulation? And what might a post-dollar world look like?

Do not miss the opportunity to hear expert views on these critical questions of the day.
