"Trump's War, the Energy Crisis and the Coming Market Crash"
08:30-10:00 Thursday, April 9, 2026
(The speech and Q & A will be in English)
NOTE: This panel discussion theme has been revised to provide a sharper focus on the impact of the Middle East war and energy crisis on stock markets.
Financial markets have remained relatively steady in the face of the Middle East War but the ensuing energy crisis risks putting an end to the artificial intelligence (AI) boom which has sustained stocks at record highs.
Markets have not recognised this hidden threat but the likely continuance and spreading economic impact of the conflict will likely bring investors to their senses.
The IMF said in a recent blog: “The war has unsettled financial markets. Global stock prices have declined, bond yields have risen across major advanced economies and many emerging markets, and volatility has increased. These moves have tightened financial conditions worldwide.”
Yet the worst is almost certainly still to come. To find out what comes next for financial markets and for the global financial system, Deep Dive has assembled a team of experts to provide answers:
Paul Sheard: Noted Australian American economist and Harvard scholar and former Head of Global Economics and Research at Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services. Author of Wall Street Journal best-selling book The Power of Money.
Hung Tran: Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council Geo-Economics Center, with experience across the private sector, international organisations, and research institutions. Former senior official at the IMF and with the Institute of International Finance (IIF).
Jesper Koll: Expert Director at Monex Group and an Investment Committee member of the Japan Catalyst Fund.
