Around the Table with
Allan West, Master Nihonga Artist
Wednesday, 6:15pm, April 2, 2025
The Pen & Quill presents the first of its special dinner experience series "Around the Table" exclusively for FCCJ members. Our guest in the first of the series, on Wednesday, April 2, starting 6:15 pm, is Nihonga artist, Allan West.
Each new "Around the Table" dinner is designed for 8-10 participants around a Pen & Quill table so diners will enjoy a uniquely memorable evening of conversation and fine dining with not only fellow members but a special guest of honor.
Allan West, is an American artist whose curiosity about colors in nature led him on a quest for paint that lasts over ages - steadily guiding him in his youth in the 1980s towards organic pigments used in Japanese painting. Unknowingly, he'd taken a brave leap, knocking on the doors of the traditional world of Nihonga masters where those whom he met in both Japan and the US tried to convince the artist that he did not belong. Today, more than 3 decades later, he has won over the hearts of skeptics and is a recognized master of Nihonga around the world.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to personally interact with this remarkable artist and adventurer. We hope to generate an animated and interesting conversation around the table on a wide range of topics, from breaking cultural barriers and the differences between Western and Japanese art, to modernism and tradition and on life in Tokyo's Yanaka neighborhood.
The price of dinner for each participant is 16,500 yen (tax included) and includes a course dinner, a glass of champagne and several of red and white each. Additional drinks will be charged individually. Seating is limited, so reserve early. Please note each participant will receive a confirmation letter with further details 5 days in advance of the dinner. Reserve at Reception 03-3211-3161, front@fccj.or.jp or online event page
Cancellations less than 5 days in advance will be charged in full.
