Meet The Japanese Magician Who Dazzled His Way To A World Championship
Losing a button would, for many, be a minor inconvenience. But for 24-year-old Japanese magician Ibuki, it forms the basis of an act that earned him the title of the World’s Best Magician, only two years after he first burst onto the magic scene in Japan.
The charismatic Kyoto native was bestowed the Grand Prix in Close-Up Magic at the FISM World Championship of Magic held in Turin, Italy, in July 2025. His victory makes him the first Japanese magician to triumph in the triennial competition that began in 1948, with Japan’s first participation in 1970.
In his original magic trick, the buttons on Ibuki’s costume moved one after another, being sewn onto a handkerchief in an instant. The competition, which is hosted by the Swiss-based International Federation of Magic Societies, is considered the ‘Olympics of Magic’.

To attend this event, the lunch charge for members is 2,500 yen (include tax) and for non-members 3,000 yen (include tax) and reservation/cancellation deadlines are at noon on October 15, Wednesday. Reservations and cancellations are not complete without confirmation. Please note lunch will not be served after the speech begins and working journalists and student members can attend the event after the meal service for free.

Please note that for this event, live-streaming will not be allowed for either FCCJ members or non-members. However, recording will be permitted for reporting purposes and use footage after the press conference.
