This month, the FCCJ's exhibition committee is proud to announce the staging of a show featuring past and present movie posters from a breakthrough music film festival staged by well-known broadcaster and DJ Peter Barakan.

While movies and TV dramas are primarily visual mediums, music is an essential component as it works alongside the visuals - or sometimes even surpasses them - to shape the film’s atmosphere, connecting the story to the viewer's heart in ways that feel either grounded in reality or steeped in fantasy.
Yet, there are times when music itself takes center stage. Some films depict the lives of musicians or document their careers, while others explore the history and role of music itself. A great movie poster is one that captures a single, evocative film moment and etches it onto our collective memories. Join us at a special reception and talk show on August 26 to listen to Peter Barakan talk about his film festival and play music from some of the featured movies.
Now in its fifth year, the "Peter Barakan Music Film Festival" - held every September in Yurakucho - reflects Barakan’s passion for bringing rare music films to Japan, often premiering works that have never been screened here. The program features valuable films that major distributors often overlook; the festival has grown richer with each passing year, captivating music fans.

ポスターは映画のサムネール。今月、FCCJは、ブロードキャスター・DJであるピーター・バラカン氏が手掛けた画期的な音楽映画祭の歴代ポスターを特集します。
Peter Barakan’s Music Movie Festival (角川シネマ有楽町): 9月18日 - 10月1日
映画やドラマは映像で作られますが、そこには必ず音楽があり、映像と共に、あるいはそれ以上に空気を醸成し、より現実的にあるいは空想的に、観客のこころとストーリーを繋げます。しかし、時には音楽が主役の映画が現れます。音楽家の生涯を描いたり、活動のドキュメンタリーであったり、あるいは音楽そのものの来し方や役割を描写する作品もあります。印象深い映画のポスターは、作品の一瞬を凝縮し、記憶に定着します。

4年前から毎年9月に開催されている「ピーター・バラカン音楽映画祭」は、本邦初公開にもこだわる彼の熱意のもと、毎年、日本で観る機会の少ない音楽映画を掘り起こして今年で5年目となります。
大手配給会社がなかなか配給できない、しかし貴重な作品がプログラムされ、年を追うごとに充実して音楽ファンを捉えています。
ブロードキャスターとして社会問題にも冷静な視線を向ける氏が、情熱を傾ける音楽。
ミュージシャン、アーティストの素顔や人生、音楽の生まれる瞬間や音楽の力を映画が捉える時、音楽がより深く、より近くに見えてくるでしょう。思い出の音楽、未知の音楽の世界に出会ってください。
