"How deeply does war permeate everyday life? And how do people come to terms with this reality and continue to live there? '20-50' represents not only the new combat range extended by drones but also a vantage point from which to observe a contemporary Ukraine where the boundary between war and daily life is becoming increasingly blurred." - Ko Sasaki
For two decades, Sasaki has captured images for publications - including The New York Times - and served as a photo editor for the magazine Courrier Japon from 2005. He visited Ukraine in 2022 and 2023, building bonds of trust with friends and soldiers, shooting aspects of the conflict often overlooked by mainstream media and published the book "Kherson: A Night of Falling Missiles", which won the 34th Tadahiko Hayashi Award. However, upon revisiting Ukraine this summer - three years later - he felt that the people were exhausted by the war, now in its fourth and a half year, and observed a widening divide between everyday life and the reality of the battlefield.

「戦争はどこまで日常に入り込むのか。そして、人はどのように現実を受け止め、そこに暮らし続けるのか。『20-50』は、ドローンによって拡張された新しい戦場の距離であると同時に、戦争と日常の境界が曖昧になっていく現在のウクライナを見つめるための距離でもあります」。佐々木 康
佐々木氏は、「ニューヨーク・タイムズ」をはじめ欧米各国の新聞や雑誌の依頼で、20年に渡り報道写真を撮り続けており、雑誌「クーリエ・ジャポン」では2005年の創刊から写真編集者を務めました。そして、2022年に4ヶ月、2023年に3ヶ月ウクライナで暮らし、友人や兵士たちと信頼関係を築き、メディアが報道しない姿を撮影し「ヘルソン- ミサイルの降る夜に」を出版、第34回林忠彦賞を受賞しました。しかし、「ヘルソン撮影から3年経過した今夏、再訪したウクライナでは、4年半に及ぶ戦争で、人々は疲れ、日常と戦地の分断が大きくなった印象を受けたと言います。
