Kumamoto City, located in Japan's south-west Kyushu Prefecture, is a vibrant metropolis with a population of over 700,000. Despite being a large city, it is blessed with abundant natural beauty, including pristine underground water sources. The city is also renowned for its delicious agricultural products and sake, nurtured by mineral-rich local waters.
With the goal of bringing this wonderful legacy to foreigners and Japanese people in Tokyo, we are excited to announce the FCCJ Kumamoto Night! This event, hosted by Mayor Kazufumi Onishi of Kumamoto City, will highlight the city's unique attractions, including the progress made as one of Japan's most important global industrial and innovation hubs. Importantly, the evening will share an update on Kumamoto Castle's restoration after the destruction from the earthquake a decade ago. The steady recovery will be celebrated with special thanks to the generosity of donors in Japan and overseas. The castle tower has been restored, but full restoration is expected to take approximately 30 more years. During the evening Guests will also enjoy dishes and sake prepared using the city's rich agricultural produce. There will also be a raffle featuring prizes such as Kumamoto's Japanese sake.

- 熊本地震を乗り越え、世界に選ばれる「熊本市の今」を御紹介いたします-

熊本市は、日本の南西部、九州の中央に位置し、人口74万人を擁する大都市でありながら、清らかな地下水をはじめとした豊かな自然にも恵まれた魅力あふれる都市です。豊富で良質な水で育まれた美味しい農産物やお酒も魅力のひとつです。
2016年の熊本地震発生から、10年を迎えようとしています。中でも甚大な被害を受けた熊本城は、国内外の多くの皆様方からの御支援・御協力により、復興のシンボルとして天守閣が復旧し、今後約30年と見込まれる完全復旧に向けて取組を進めています。
さらに近年は、世界的な半導体メーカーが近隣に進出したことにより半導体関連企業の集積が進み、最先端のテクノロジーと世界中から技術者が集まるグローバルな産業都市として、大きな注目を集めています。
そのような中、地震から力強い復興を遂げ、さらに国際都市として発展する「熊本市の今」を各国の皆様に知っていただき、発信していただくため、この度「熊本ナイト」を開催いたします。
当日は、熊本市長大西一史から熊本市の魅力や熊本城の復旧状況、地域経済の発展に向けた取組など、最新トピックスを御紹介いたします。また、本市の豊かな農産物などを使用した料理・お酒、さらには日本酒などが当たる抽選会を御用意しておりますので、多くの皆様の御参加を心からお待ち申し上げております。
