United States-Japan Trade Relations
The United States' top trade negotiator Katherine Tai will address the FCCJ during her two-day visit to Tokyo, where she is expected to meet Japan's trade minister Yasutoshi Nishimura and other senior officials.

Discussions about the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity, or IPEF, are likely to be on the agenda, with the US hoping to conclude a deal around the time of a summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries in November.

Japan and the US are among 14 countries involved in IPEF, which accounts for 40 per cent of the global economy and aims to establish rules and norms in the global trading order. This has emerged as a priority for US President Joe Biden, who is seeking cooperation with allies and partners to strengthen supply chains.

Tai's visit also comes weeks after the US and Japan struck a deal on critical minerals that are key to strengthening their supply chains for electric vehicle batteries.
