The medical system in Ukraine was forced to change gradually after the Russian-Ukrainian war began in 2014. This allowed it to adapt quickly in February 2022, when the full-scale war broke out, and provide patients with necessary medical care. Still, it faces many problems caused by constant shelling, a shortage of resources, and the targeting of critical infrastructure, hospitals and health personnel.
Following their symposium "Fight for life, health and future: Ukrainian healthcare system in Russian-Ukrainian War" for which they held a press conference last summer, the Ukrainian medical team has been invited back to the FCCJ to hold an exhibition of their photographs. The photos, all taken by medical professionals and mostly taken with smartphone cameras, document the daily life and difficulties of Ukrainian healthcare institutions, the extent of destruction, and the extreme efforts being taken to save patient lives.
The exhibition contains 24 photographs accompanied by panels describing what is depicted in them. At the press conference, the medical team will also give a virtual tour of the accompanying website, which in addition to providing more information about the photographs, will host audio statements from the medical professionals who took the photographs, many of whom are still serving on the front lines.
