Beyond Womenomics: Can a Female-led Investment Firm Change Japan with ESG?

After more than a quarter century at Goldman Sachs in Tokyo, where she drove pioneering research on women's contribution to Japan’s economy with her Womenomics series of reports Kathy Matsui has turned her considerable talents to seeking change in the business world from the bottom up. After Japan was dubbed a "fossil" at this month's COP26 climate talks in Glasgow, and  saw the proportion of women in the lower house fall for the first time in nearly a decade in this year's general election, that looks like a tall order. Stepping down from her post as Goldman Sachs vice chair at the end of 2020, Matsui launched MPower, a global venture capital fund focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investments in June. Matsui will be joined by her fellow General Partners, Yumiko Murakami, former head of the OECD's Japan office and current adviser to the Cabinet Office, as well as Miwa Seki, a former financial industry executive known for her best-selling translations of business books, and Masatoshi Fukasawa, the lone male partner at the fund. Join us to hear about ESG investment and what it could mean for business in Japan and beyond.
