PROFESSIONAL LUNCHEON
Randy Bass, Former Hanshin Tigers player and Oklahoma State Senator
12:00-13:30 Friday, August 1, 2025
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in English.
Randy Bass is one of the most famous American players in Japanese baseball history, winning two consecutive Triple Crowns as a first basemen for the Hanshin Tigers from 1983-1988. He still holds the record for the highest single season batting average in the history of the Japanese game, hitting .389 in 1986. In 1985, he hit 54 home runs, nearly tying Sadaharu Oh's single season Japan record and leading the Tigers to their first ever Japan championship. He was intentionally walked in four of his last five at bats during his last game of the season against the Yomirui Giants at Tokyo's Korakuen Stadium, then managed by Oh.
Bass was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023, and is returning to Japan this year to attend festivities honoring the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Hanshin Tigers.
After his 1988 retirement, Bass became active in community projects in Oklahoma, and was elected to the Oklahoma Senate as a Democrat multiple times starting in 2004.
He returns periodically to Japan as a cultural ambassador attending Hanshin Tiger events in Kobe, and was decorated by the Emperor of Japan this spring. Please join us to look back at 40 years of Japanese baseball and one of its greatest foreign players ever on August 1, 2025
