April 2023 Exhibition:Sakura Journey
Photographs by Kazuto Nakanishi
April 8 - May 2, 2023

@ Kazuto Nakanishi

Kazuto Nakanishi has always had passion for viewing the Sakura and when he was 30 years old, decided to take it to another level and chase the flowers as they bloomed across Japan. Since his full-time work at a company would not allow for him to take such a long break, he quit his job then hit the road. Spending the next few months driving from the southern parts of Japan to the northern tip of Hokkaido, he was hooked and looking forward to doing it again. In the meantime, Nakanishi needed money to finance his travels and found employment at another company. When it was time for the flowers to bloom, he resigned and was off once more. Nakanishi continued this sequence for several years of working to support his travels, quitting at the start of the season, then back to finding a new job. He also obtained a weather forecaster's license for a better understanding about the climate and when the Sakura would be most beautiful. In his ongoing quest to see as many Sakura spots as possible, he has gone to over 1,800 locations and become an authority on the best places to view the cherry blossoms in Japan.

Profile: Kazuto Nakanishi was born in Ehime in 1964 and currently lives in Ibaraki. He published a book of his Sakura photos and written numerous articles for magazines. In addition, he is a regular guest on radio shows and TV programs, sharing his deep knowledge about these delicate flowers.
