FCCJ & History Channel Video #8: "Shogun" Stars

The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ) new short video in collaboration with History Channel features producer/actor Hiroyuki Sanada and actor Anna Sawai from the hit 2024 drama series Shogun. Sanada, whose show earned a record-breaking 18 Emmy Awards, spoke movingly at the press conference about the series' role in sharing Japanese culture with a global audience. In a more reflective moment, Sawai discussed her portrayal of the internal struggles faced by Japanese women. For the FCCJ, the press conference marked a significant full-circle moment: the 2024 series is an adaptation of James Clavell's 1975 bestseller, a novel the author himself discussed at an FCCJ event in 1980.

FCCJとヒストリーチャンネル 共同制作動画 第8弾: 真田 広之 主演ドラマ『SHOGUN 将軍』(2024年)

日本外国特派員協会(FCCJ)とヒストリーチャンネルとで共同で制作された次のショートビデオは2024年放送のヒットドラマ『SHOGUN』に出演したプロデューサー兼 俳優の真田 広之と女優の沢井 杏奈をフィーチャーしたものです。同作で史上最多となる18部門でエミー賞を受賞した事について記者会見で真田は「このシリーズが日本の文化を世界中の観客とわかちあうという役割」について感動的に語った一方、沢井は実際の撮影を振り返り、日本人女性がこの国で対峙しなければならない内面の葛藤を表現する事に挑戦したと語りました。FCCJにとって実はこの記者会見は非常に意義深い巡り合わせになったといえます。娘である登壇者、ミカエラ・クラベル氏が会見でコメントをした通り、この2024年シリーズの原作、1975年ベストセラー小説『将軍』は原作者ジェームズ・クラベル氏自身が1980年にFCCJで会見に登壇して話をしたいきさつがあったからです。
